Córdoba is the second largest city in Argentina. It was founded
by Spanish conquistador, Jeronimo Luis de Cabrera, who named it
Córdoba de la Nueva Andalucía, after the Spanish city with the
same name, due to its similar geographic characteristics.
Córdoba is known for its rich colonial heritage, a rich cultural
offer, which includes its own unique latin pop music genre
called Cuarteto, and a vibrant nightlife with a wide
choice of bars, restaurants and craft fares.

What does Cordoba offer?
Cultural heritage
The historic center of Córdoba was built by 17th Century missionaries and it comprises a full 10.000 sq2 of protected buildings which were named a World Heritage Site in 2000. Inside the vault of one of these buildings, you can enjoy a coffee at Marmol Sigo 17, a recentrly discovered and restaured section of the vault now converted into a cafe.

You can visit the surrounding historic buildings, most of them being churches and schools, such as Colegio de las Huérfanas, Iglesia de la Compañía, Cripta Jesuítica del Antiguo Noviciado, Capilla Doméstica, Córdoba National University and Colegio Monserrat, which gathers students from all over the world.
Bohemian nightlife
Just a stroll away from the city centre, The Güemes area offers a varied and vibrant nightlife ranging from varied and multicultural restaurants, bars and live music to avant-garde design, art fairs, hidden alleys, antique shops and even independent theaters. The area becomes lively after sunset and continues until dawn.

There is a street fair by the old cultural centre at weekends at nighttime. The old buildings have been restored keeping the original features and you can walk through beautiful alleyways to find hidden shops and surprises in each corner. Explore the side roads as well. Cuarteto experience
Cuarteto, a unique type of latin music, has given Córdoba a distinctive cultural identity. Created in the 1960s by inmigrants fusing the rhythms of the Italian tarantella and the Spanish paso doble in the Creole working-class areas, it is now a symbol of the province reaching all sectors of society and spreading beyond the shores of the province.

The main representative of this genre is La Mona Jimenez who has been playing it for 40 years. Over 20,000 people go to regular cuarteto dances every week around the city and province. You can visit the Mona Jimenez's museum paying homage to La Mona before heading to a dance yourself.
